M17 - The Swan nebula

M17 is nebula that has the form of a swan, which is upside down.  It is also called the "omega" nebula.  It is located in the constellation of Serpens is roughly 5000 light years from earth. Like other nebula in the summer milky way, it is popular target for astrophotographers. 

This image was taken using a 6-inch F5 reflector and a modified Canon T3i set at ISO 800.  The resultant image is a stack of six five-minute exposures.
