Mars 2016 opposition
After the 2005 opposition, Mars was too small for imaging. Additionally, imaging planets from NH in any month other than the summer or fall is a losing situation. The conditions in the spring in winter are usually affected by upper level winds and poor weather. Stable seeing is critical for obtaining good images of Mars. As a result, it was not until 2016 that I was able to image Mars again. By that time, I had improved my telescope collection and also purchased an actual camera dedicated for imaging planets. Using an Orion 180mm Maksutov (F15 FL =2700mm) and Orion all-in-one camera produced reasonable results considering the apparent size of the planet (18.5" maximum) and low declination. These images were an improvement over the old webcam shots from 2005.
