This is a large face-on spiral galaxy that would be a visual showpiece but is hidden by dust from the milky way, which decreases its overall brightness. It is one of the brightest galaxies in the Maffei group, which is a neighbor to our local group of galaxies. This galaxy has a low surface brightness and requires a lot of integration time to increase the signal to noise ratio enough to properly record the arms. This image required 23 five-minute and 16 three-minute exposures when I normally only imaged with 16 five-minute exposures.
