Constellation:Ursa Major

Instrument: 8-inch F5 reflector with sky watcher coma corrector and an ASI 2600 MC (gain 100 -20C).

Exposure time: A stack of 16 five-minute exposures.

Magnitude: M81 - 6.9  M82 - 8.4

Angular size: M81 - 27' X 14'  M82 - 11' X 4'

M81 is a spiral galaxy and M82 is a starburst galaxy. These two galaxies are popular targets for astrophotographers. In the image below, one can barely see the dwarf companion galaxy, Holmberg 9, just below M81.
