Magnitude: 7.6 Angular size: 12.9' X 11.5' M83 is a large spiral galaxy in Hydra. It is called the southern pinwheel because it resembles the "northern pinwheel", M101. It is often overlooked from northern latitudes because of its low declination but it is a spectacular object to image.
