Magnitude: 9.6 (NGC 6946) 7.8 (NGC 6939)

Apparent size: 16.0' X 11.2' (NGC 6946) 7' (NGC 6939)

NGC 6939 is an open cluster but the real target in this pair is NGC 6946, "The fireworks galaxy", which is a face-on spiral galaxy. It is called the "fireworks" galaxy because it has ten recorded supernova in the past 100 years.
